How it works

From a page in Chrome to a voice you can follow.

Try a short voice sample, then explore the intended Chrome workflow: select text, right-click and choose Read out loud. The full paid extension is still in development.

Try a voice sample

Listen, pause and change the pace using an installed device voice. This is a browser sample, not the Kokoro natural-voice engine or a released extension.

Welcome to ReadOnPlay. Give the text a voice, choose a comfortable pace, and listen while you follow the words. Pause, resume or stop whenever you need.

Daniel (English, UK) is not available on this device. On Apple devices, download Daniel in Accessibility → Spoken Content / Read & Speak → Voices, then reopen this page.

Fixed sample only. No text upload or model download. Only Daniel is offered following listening feedback; availability depends on your device. This is not a demonstration of the Kokoro natural-voice engine.

  1. 01

Open the page you want to read

Any article, document, or long-form page in a Chrome tab on your desktop.

  2. 02

    Start the read-aloud

ReadOnPlay takes the main text of the page and speaks it in order, one sentence at a time.

  3. 03

Set the pace as you go

Pause, rewind a sentence, or slow the voice down. When you come back, you resume where you left off.

Prototype

Reading now · 4 min left

Long pages are easy to open and hard to stay with. The eye moves ahead of the meaning, and somewhere in the fourth paragraph the reading stops being reading.

ReadOnPlay gives the page a voice, one sentence at a time, at the pace you choose.

Pause when you need to. Go back a sentence. The words are still where you left them.

Illustrative prototype of the reading panel. The controls are not connected to audio.

What it does not do

  • No phone app, no tablet app, and no reading inside native mobile readers.
  • No reading of text that is only inside an image, a video, or a canvas.
  • No library of pages you have read — the reading panel works on the page in front of you.
  • No voice cloning and no AI rewriting of the page: it speaks the text that is there.

Compatibility

ReadOnPlay is a desktop Chrome extension. It does not install on a phone, and it does not run inside native mobile readers.
